Now for Myth #7
No one gets my pet grief, and I am alone in what I am experiencing.
Debunking ~ You are never alone with the grief that you are going through. It may feel like that at times because some people don’t know what it feels like to lose the companionship of their pet. They just don’t understand what you are going through.
People (even pet lovers) will say unsupportive things, like “There are so many dogs/cats that need homes. See this as an opportunity!” or “At least it wasn’t a child.”
Even still, there are many, may people who do know the grief you are experiencing. It may take some time to time the right people to support you in a healthy way. There are supportive friend, end-of-life and grief coaches, and pet loss support groups to walk this journey with you.

Myth #7 Action Step
Make a list of everyone that supports you without judgment and allows you to express your feelings. If you cannot come up with anyone make a list of support groups near you. Make sure they are pet loss support groups so you will learn how to deal with grief of losing a pet from someone who truly understands.
