 I for one don’t believe that myth in any way and here is why…

As a pet lover you understand how important your companion is to you. The grief that surrounds your loss is significant. This grief isn’t something that you can push aside and forget about.

If you are like many of my clients your dog, cat, horse, etc. was a family member. You shared an amazing life together filled with love, hugs, adventures and quiet moments of bonding.

So when debunking this myth keep in mind you are capable of grieving both your companion as well as other humans. The fact that you may be super sad, angry, depressed or other feelings of grief doesn’t mean that you would feel less so if a person close to you died. By grieving your animal companion you are showing tremendous compassion for the world at large. Read more

The last thing that you need to be worried about is following the seven grief and loss stages in exact order. Although the stages of grief are extremely valuable, the order in which you do them is up to you. Let the stages unfold naturally.
